Early Years Curriculum

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum intent

“Early childhood is an explosion of experience,” – Jennie Lindon.

We recognise that all children have varied life experiences and so begin their school life with different starting points. Our aim is to plan rich teaching and learning opportunities to address this. We believe that all children deserve an education that is rich in wonder and memorable experiences. We seek to engage enquiring minds and allow their natural curiosity and interests to flourish.

We know that children learn best when they have adults who know them well and can provide a happy, safe and secure environment where children feel confident to try new things and develop their self-esteem. We also feel that partnership with parents, families and the communities which we serve are essential.

A key focus for Bishop’s Primary is developing children’s Communication and Language skills, not only for their time in school, but also as an essential life skill. Our curriculum is planned around books and stories which helps our children to gain purposeful acquisition of skills and knowledge.

We have planned our curriculum to reflect our communities so that our children have an understanding of their immediate world as well as the wider world.

We want to build strong foundations for the future and for our children to have every opportunity to “Let their Light Shine.”
