Nursery provision

Nursery provision is offered at all five of our Primary campuses and children are eligible to join the Nursery class the term following their third birthday.

Children are offered 15 hours of Nursery provision either five mornings or five afternoons.

Our nurseries are staffed by experienced Early Years teachers who are supported by a full time, experienced Early Years Teaching Assistant. Support from a specialist language assistant is also available.

We provide an environment where children learn through play, with more emphasis on the “process” rather than the “end product”. Children are encouraged to make their own choices and are given opportunities to explore and learn, establishing solid foundations on which they can build.

Children learn and develop through playing, exploring, being creative and being asked questions to help their thinking. Our highly qualified early years staff will support your child in developing these skills in a fun and exciting way.

30 hours Free Childcare at Bishop’s Primary

From September 2018 the Government funded initiative of 30 hours free childcare for Nursery aged children has been offered on all campuses to children who meet the eligibility criteria. This is offered through partnership working at Grace Darling and William Leech campuses and on site at Josephine Butler, James Knott and Thomas Bewick campuses.  Information for parents about eligibility criteria is available on the Childcare Choices website.

Visits to the provision by parents are welcomed.
